Can you recommend a horse care book?

A great book I turn to quite often is by Storey Publish it’s called Storey’s Barn Guide To Horse Health & First Aid. Here is a link
this book is awesome, it’s a semi hard backed book and has a hole where you can hang it in your barn. Easy to flip to sections thta are labeled. It tells you everything from how to correctly apply wraps to dressing wounds and feeding. It gives basics but also stuff that is not so basic.

Another great book once again by storey is
Storey’s Guide To Feeding Horses this goes over the correct nutrition levels horses need, what they shoudl eat how feeds are classed… etc etc. I use this book in my store to back up my claims when I have an unknowledgeable person come in wnatig to know why their horse is so skinny b/c all they feed is corn. lol I explain proper nutrition and that the horse actuallu also needs roughage and a grain and then show them this book. Actually if you look at Storey’s website they have all kinds of greta books!

I agree, Cherry Hill’s books are very informative and she uses a lot of pictures to make them more interesting. They were my favorite growing up.

Cherry Hill is a fabulous author so I highly recommend her as well.

Another book that I’ve always loved, even though it may be a bit outdated is A Horse of Your Own by M.A. Stoneridge and William Steinkraus. It advises the reader about everything from choosing your first horse, to picking a discipline and how to ride, to grooming and even foaling and pasture management. It’s a great all encompassing book.

Being a book junkie, I’ve acquired lots of “horse” books. The best one for me the one I enjoy reading. Cherry Hill’s books are reliably good and Joan Fry’s “Backyard Horsekeeping” is an information packed good read.
